BDCU has always respected our members' rights to Privacy. It is fundamental to the way we do business in providing financial services.
We are committed to complying with the Privacy Act 1988, the National Privacy Principles, and any succeeding legislation or Privacy Principles, including with respect to credit reporting and the collection, storage, use and disclosure of your personal information. BDCU will comply with all applicable laws relating to the retention of your personal and financial information.
BDCU has adopted the Mutual Banking Code of Practice and we are committed to complying with that code.
BDCU takes all reasonable precautions to ensure your personal and financial information is protected from misuse, loss or unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We will regularly review the security and reliability of our banking and payment services, Privacy Statement and Policy. This includes physical security of our Advice Centres, and administrations and 'firewalls' that protect your information stored on our database.
Our Internet site is protected by the use of 128-bit encryption technology along with individual unqique passwords/pins, ensuring that your information and transactions are as secure as reasonably possible.
We store information in an electronic hardcopy format. Access to this information is restricted to authorised persons for approved purposes. BDCU has implemented strict procedures for the secure disposal of your personal information, if requested.
We realise the importance of the confidentiality of our members' personal information. We only collect personal information which is necessary for our functions or activities, and to provide products or services you have requested. We take steps to ensure the information is not disclosed to, or accessed by unauthorised persons.
BDCU collects statistical data using 'cookies' that track trends and patterns of use on our Internet site so that we can continually improve service to you. This data does not individually identify the user.
If you do not allow us to use this information, we may not be able to deliver the product or service you requested. We do not generally collect information that is 'sensitive personal information' as defined by the Privacy Act 1988.
We will treat your personal and financial information as private and confidential. We will not disclose that information to any other organisation unless;
We will not use any Commonwealth identifier or your Tax File Number (TFN) as an account identifier, and will only use your TFN in circumstances where required by government law.
We may provide you with information from time to time about new products and services available from BDCU, or other businesses with which we have a relationship. Your consent to our providing this information will be implied unless you notify us that you do not wish to receive this information. You may do this by contacting BDCU and advising us you do not wish to receive further marketing information.
BDCU does not sell information to third parties for direct marketing purposes.
Under BDCUs’ Constitution, we are required to provide you with certain information. This information includes notices of meetings, elections and any proposed changes to the Constitution. We are also legally bound to provide statements and any notices of a variation to an account or contract terms. As we are legally obliged to provide this information, it is not possible for you to be excluded from receiving it.
In some cases it is necessary for BDCU to use third party suppliers, for example, mailing houses for statements. Other suppliers include related entities, solicitors and legal advisors, accountants and auditors, printers and mailing services, insurers, collection agents, conveyance services, valuers’, Credit Union Services Corporation Australia Ltd, (our national credit union body) and government agencies which regulate our products and services. These other organisations are bound by confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements which prohibit them from using your information for any other purpose.
Your personal information is only provided to those entities to the extent necessary to enable us to provide our products and services to you and to the extent required by law. BDCU does not disclose sensitive personal information to third parties without your permission or instruction.
In certain circumstances there may be times where we need to gather information from a third party, such as a credit reporting agency, an insurer, or another financial institution to enable us to provide the financial product or service you requested. Wherever possible this will be done with your authorisation or, where this is not possible, we will inform you when such information is collected.
In order to provide products and services to you, we will require information about you including identity information required under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Act2006 (Cth). If you do not provide us with all of the information we require, we may be unable to provide any products or services to you. You are not required to supply us with your tax file number, however, if you do not provide your TFN there may be taxation implications on some, or all of your accounts.
Under the Privacy Act you have the right to access personal information we hold about you. Where we incur a cost in copying and retrieving documents and files, this cost may be passed on to you. BDCU relies on the accuracy of the information you provide and we will correct any error that you bring to our attention. If you believe or know information we hold about you is incorrect, out of date, or incomplete, please contact us and we will update our records accordingly.
