BDCU Childrens Foundation spokesman Ross Stone today received confirmation of the plans for the reconstruction of the Children’s Ward at a meeting with Denis Thomas, General Manager of Bowral & District Hospital and Dr Theresa Anderson of South West Area Health Service.
"The Foundation is very pleased to see the final plans that will now be implemented with construction to begin in August this year,” said Presidents Jennifer Grey and Susie Reynolds.
"The community has been very anxious that the ward be refurbished to a standard expected and that the comfort and care of local children and their parents be improved,” said Mrs Grey and Mrs Reynolds.
Originally a target of $500,000 had been set by the Foundation following estimates from the hospital that they thought would range between $350,000 and $500,000.
The State Government announced capital funding late last year for the works. The amount was in excess of that originally anticipated.
The Foundation is pleased to note that the State Government has seen fit to provide this capital expenditure and allow the Foundation to reduce its target to $400,000 to assist purchase the nominated items for the ward that will ensure the comfort of patients and parents.
The list of items totals over $300,000 which may increase with repricing and inflation.
The list includes items such as:

It is proposed that work will commence in August as the Childrens Ward is relocated to the current high dependency ward which is in turn relocated to Milton Park Ward.
It is expected that the work will be completed in May 2009.
“BDCU Childrens Foundation has raised $300,000 since the fundraising commenced,” said Ross Stone.
“We are very grateful to the community that has wholeheartedly supported the initiative and raised their own funds, passed them on to us, or directed them to the BDCU Childrens Foundation account at the hospital.”
The fundraising will continue with a Trivia Night to be held at Moss Vale Football Club on Friday 21 May 2008.
Everyone is welcome and tickets are available at Mittagong, Bowral or Moss Vale BDCU or by calling Emma Vaughan on 4861 9000.
Sue Jackman of Confetti (Bowral) will MC the evening and it promises to be lots of fun for everyone with loads of prizes. There is a theme of 'My Earliest Childhood Memory' – so consider dressing accordingly or decorating your table.
Tables of 10 are available and you can organise your own group or be placed at a table with others.
The Foundation aims to continue its fundraising to ensure that there is sufficient capital to maintain or replace equipment.
