$3.2 Million to Upgrade Children's Ward

12 December 2007

The State Government is to provide $3.2 million to reconstruct the Children's Ward at Bowral & District Hospital, after many years of community persistence and negotiations with BDCU Childrens Foundation.

"It's been an excruciating process," said Foundation spokesperson Ross Stone. "However, we are overwhelmed that we will have a new facility that will meet the needs of the community."

Work will commence immediately with the call for tenders. The initial move of the Short Stay ward will be completed in March 2008 and the new facility completed in March 2009.

"It has been a real community effort and BDCU Childrens Foundation thanks all those who made it possible with so many offers of financial and in kind support," said Mr Stone.

The Foundation will continue its fundraising to provide for the hospital's wish-list of items for the refurbishment in order to make difficult times of hospitalisation more bearable for children and their families.

The Foundation's goal is to raise $500,000 and is currently almost half way.
