Scalps Given Up for Maeve
A dozen locals including Michael, Ian Salmond, Nikki Hessenberger, Scott Pickup, BDCU's Tom Simmons, Cr Nick Campbell-Jones, local newspaper editor Daniel de Nardi and Kevin Brewin, have volunteered to have their heads shaved to raise money.
The big shave-a-thon will happen on Saturday 9 August at around 11am in Springett's Arcade Bowral. Come and join us by the fish tank. There will be prizes to be won and coin collectors with buckets in hand. All donations gratefully received.
The good news is that 'note' donations will receive a raffle ticket. So, not only are you helping a truly worthwhile cause, you're in the draw for one of stacks of great prizes donated by local businesses.
Harvey Norman at Moss Vale is donating a printer / scanner/ photocopier plus 500 prints AND an iPod Nano.
Other prize donors include WILD FOODS, The Grand Bar & Brasserie, The Empire Cinema Bowral, Toddy's Coffee Shop, Sue Stott Massage and Coles at Bowral.
Money raised will be split between the Wilson family and the new children's ward at Bowral Hospital.
"I am a bit awestruck, actually. I'm quite blown away by how much the Highlands community, businesses and families have all offered to help," said James Wilson, Maeve's father.
"It has certainly instilled a bit more optimism in me."
The last few months have been harrowing for the Wilson family, whose one-year-old daughter Maeve was diagnosed with leukaemia at Easter, but the Highlands spirit is keeping them optimistic.
While Maeve has been receiving chemotherapy at Randwick Hospital, with her family keeping a close bedside vigil, the Highlands community - led by Mittagong man and BDCU member Michael Stokes - has been organising the fundraiser to help them through their tough time.
